Sunlight streamed through the dense canopy of trees, dappling the forest floor in shifting patterns. The air was thick with the scent of damp earth and vegetation, and the sound of birdsong filled the silence. It was an almost perfect natural landscape, but something felt… off.

The air was too still. Usually, the forest buzzed with the sounds of wildlife, the rustle of leaves, the chirping of insects. Now, there was only the oppressive quiet of death.

A figure stumbled out of the undergrowth, breathless and disheveled. Long, dark hair clung to her face and shoulders, matted with mud and filth. Her eyes were wide and unfocused, her face pale as a sheet. She stumbled to her knees, then fell onto the ground, curled in a fetal position.
